OLD GOVERNMENT HOUSE & QUT ROOM 360 WEDDING
Hannah + Lachlan
Hannah & Lachlan have a bit of a cute love story. You see their first encounter meeting one another was at kindergarten when they were just 4 years old. Naturally too young and more interested in playground games than each other. It wasn’t until their late teens that Hannah & Lachlan met again, and the rest is history.
Lachie proposed on Hannah’s birthday weekend. Hannah tells me “Lachie picked her up from work on that Friday afternoon and drove to a lighthouse overlooking the ocean where they enjoyed a champagne picnic.”… “Lachie knew it would be so important to me to tell all of our loved ones in person, so he arranged it on my birthday weekend, because he knew we already had plans to see family and friend over the weekend. It was so much fun breaking the we’re engaged news to every one!”.
Hannah & Lachlan chose to get married at Old Government House in Brisbane with the reception at Room 360. One of the reasons for choosing these wedding venues was their close proximity to each other and being in Brisbane city making it easy for their guests.
The couple would have loved to have a church wedding, but the heritage charm of Old Government House had a similar look and feel to a church. Room 360 is located within the same QUT precinct. A fresh modern reception venue with beautiful views of the city, and a blank canvas to create Hannah & Lachie’s dream wedding.

Whether it’s ties or bowties, the groom & groomsmen usually have trouble doing them up. While it makes for some fun photos, the boys did a quick trip to the shops to purchase some new, easier to do up bowties! Tip: groom and groomsmen practice doing up your ties before the big day. haha
I love these sentimental gifts Lachie & Hannah presented to each of their parents.

A great gesture that also creates beautiful natural, candid moments for the camera.
Hannah wore a stunning White Lily Couture gown. I love how she teamed the gown with metallic shoes!
Beautiful white and green foliage bouquets for a classic look from Kate Dawes.

Reading out your letters is also great content for your wedding video.

Hannah tells me her favourite moment from her big day …
“This is a tough one, there are so many. I absolutely loved that first moment when the doors to Old Government House opened and with my dad by my side, I began walking down the aisle. To see everyone’s smiling faces and to see Lachie at the end was so special.“
Lachie tells me his favourite moment from his big day …
“My favourite memory was when I saw Hannah for the first time walking down the aisle, she took my breath away.“
Old Government House is one of the rare ceremony venues ideal for a group photo.
Being able to stand on the balcony overlooking the courtyard gives a great advantage to see everyone’s face.
And then there was cake … haha.
We had organised with the wedding co-ordinator to sneak up into Room 360 to get a sneak peek of the reception room styling ahead of the guests. For one, so I could get some photos, but so Hannah could see her vision come to life. The room was beautifully styled in a simple and traditional way, with an organic feel with whites, greys and lots of green foliage.
Hannah tells me her inspiration for the wedding style came mainly from Instagram and Pinterest. She spent endless hours scrolling through Instagram feeds to find the perfect details. A couple of Hannah’s favourites were The Brides Market, White Magazine and The Wedding Harvest. This is also how Hannah found a lot of her suppliers. Once she had found her suppliers, she was constantly scrolling through their Instagram feeds for further inspiration.
Lachie’s mum, sister and aunty handmade all of the grey linen napkins used throughout the reception.
For the bridal portraits, we wandered around the QUT precinct utilising Old Government House.
Hannah & Lachie told me “At the end of the day, our top priority was to just have fun. We had put so much time and effort into planning all of the details and on the day we didn’t have any concerns as we knew everything was well organised. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole wedding planning process and to see it all come together on the day was just amazing. We were able to relax and enjoy the day with our beautiful friends and family with everything behind the scenes taken care of.“
Hannah & Lachie and the whole bridal party had choreographed a dance routine to a mashup of songs they put together. They had kept it a secret from everyone at the wedding. When they entered and all the guests were suspiciously standing around the dance floor, the reaction of our guests when the groomsmen started dancing to Beyonce’s Crazy in Love was priceless.
Hannah & Lachie danced their first dance as newlyweds to Perfect by Ed Sheeran.
Hannah tells me another of her favourite memories from her wedding day …
“I also loved mine and Lachie’s first dance (which we had been going to dance lessons for) and mine and my dad’s first dance.“
Lachie tells me another one of his favourite memories from his wedding day …
“I also loved the relaxed and love-filled vibe at the reception. Our DJ was fantastic at keeping the good music going and everyone just looked like they were having the best time.“
Hannah’s advice for other bride-to-be’s planning their wedding is …
“Don’t leave things to the last minute. Good suppliers book out quickly (especially if you are having a Spring wedding) so make sure if there is someone in particular you want, book them early. Once all of the main suppliers are locked in, the rest of the process can be really fun and stress free if you take your time. Also, at the reception, make the effort to speak to all of your guests. Some of ours had travelled a long way to be there, and although there isn’t huge amounts of time it is important to see everyone! We used the time after we had finished our entree’s and mains (and guests were still finishing theirs) to walk around the tables to say hi to everyone.”
“Just enjoy it all! Because unfortunately it is over so quickly. We had so much fun with all of the planning so it wasn’t just the wedding day we have fond memories off, it was from the moment we were engaged right through until the end of our honeymoon. It was such an amazing time in our lives that we will always remember.
“A huge thank you to the staff at QUT and all of our suppliers who were involved in the day, they made our life so easy and I would highly recommend each and every one of them! To our bridal party who were so much fun and so supportive, and to our beautiful parents who we could not have done this without, you are amazing.”
