NORTH STRADBROKE ISLAND WEDDING
WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BRISBANE
Tara + Jarrod
I met Tara about 8 years ago when she was working at a printing company I was using for my photo books. We got to know each other over good chats and giggles when I would collect my orders. She would tell me about her boyfriend Jarrod and how handsome he was. She told me when they get married in 5 years time, she was going to have me photograph their wedding. I remember thinking that is lovely of Tara to say that and Id be honoured if she did, but realistically who knows where we would be in 5 years time! Well Tara & Jarrod came knocking last year saying they were getting married and asked would I photograph their wedding. Absolutely yes!
What I loved about Tara back then, even early in their relationship, of her certainty in their love and Jarrod was the man for her. Its obvious when you are around Tara & Jarrod, that these two are not only in love, but also best friends. I got to hang out with the two of them for the day last year when we grabbed Lucy Goosey, their black Labrador, and headed to Byron Bay for their engagement shoot. Check out photos from Tara & Jarrod’s engagement session with Lucy Goosey here …
Tara & Jarrod chose to get married on North Stradbroke Island. A beautiful, island escape for a laid-back wedding surrounded by their loved ones.
It was the first weekend of June, the sun was shining, the ocean was sparkling blue, and it was also the first week of winter in Queensland. I had just moved to Sydney and it was already freezing cold, so I welcomed the warm rays of sunshine with open arms.

DESTINATION STRADBROKE ISLAND AND PRE WEDDING LOCATION SCOUTING AROUND POINT LOOKOUT
Now that Ive moved back to Sydney, Brisbane weddings get to be destination weddings. I have photographed a wedding at North Stradbroke Island before but its been some time since Ive been across to the island. In these instances, I always like to scout the location ahead of the wedding. Especially coastal locations as weather can affect beaches and so on, so its good to check the lay of the land. As I wondered around the day before the wedding, I took these location photos. Oh there are also a couple of shots from the ferry. A pretty location for a wedding right!
GROOM PREPARATION FOR THE WEDDING DAY
Jarrod and the boys got ready at the Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel.
BRIDE PREPARATION FOR THE WEDDING DAY
Tara, the bridesmaids and her family got ready at Cooks Hideaway, a private luxury waterfront property with stunning views across Moreton Bay. Located in a secluded area of Amity Point, this was also the location where the ceremony was being held.
A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN WEDDING ON THE JETTY AT AMITY POINT
While Tara was getting ready upstairs at Cooks Hideaway, the groom and guests were gathering downstairs in the backyard overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
It was the perfect outdoor winter ceremony, the sun was shining with an elegant arbour setup on the jetty and beautiful timber chairs set the scene. The perfect romantic setting for Tara & Jarrod to get married.
The anticipated wait for the bride to arrive. What kind of gown will she be wearing? Tara sure made a grand entrance arriving on the arms of both her father & mother. Local Stradbroke Island celebrant, Sheryl Gotje was their to officiate their marriage.
In the days leading up to Tara & Jarrod’s wedding day, dolphins had been gathering in the waters below the jetty. On que, just as Tara & Jarrod were signing their marriage certificate, the dolphins arrived and were swimming below the jetty. Now if that’s not a sign for a happy marriage I don’t know what is!
I always love photographing the congratulations photos following the ceremony. Coming out of this quiet, formal gathering into guests bursting with congratulations and big heartfelt hugs. It’s like an unspoken sign of ‘let’s get this party started’.
Family photos are important so there is always time allowed in the wedding day schedule for a group photo and the family photos following the ceremony. While I rarely share the family photos on the blog, in my attempts to keep the blogs shorter for faster loading and a more speedy viewing experience, the couple certainly receive family photos as part of their collection. Prior to the wedding day, I obtain a list from the couple of the family groups they want photos off, to ensure we don’t miss any of the important family photos required. If you wish to see the family photos, contact the couple for the link and password to their private gallery with the full wedding photo collection.
WEDDING PHOTOS AROUND POINT LOOKOUT, STRADBROKE ISLAND
A quick stop to have some photos with the couple’s Labrador, Lucy. Before driving off in their friend’s Kombi called ‘Matilda’ for photos around Point Lookout. It was rather windy down on the headlands but Tara & Jarrod braved the wind and sand for their wedding photos. I must admit I don’t mind some windblown hair across the face or it blowing the skirt of the dress! :)

Jeannie & the team from Two Little Rows did an amazing job coordinating and styling both the ceremony location and reception venue. There can never be enough fairy lights and foliage in my opinion to decorate a wedding venue, and the team certainly delivered.
Just a few teaser images from the reception, but you can watch the wedding highlights video at the top of the page for more of the fun evening celebrations.
