Mount Coot-tha Botanical Gardens wedding photography
From the moment I met Mellita I knew she was going to be a fun bride and have an awesome wedding, not just because her day job is as a wedding planner in Noosa, but her bubbly personality is extremely infectious and I do believe people attract similar personalities to surround them, and that was most definitely the case for Mellita & Mark’s wedding at Mount Coot-tha Botanical Gardens.
I started photographing a very chilled out Mark and the boys at Morningside where one kind sole did the boys ironing. Check out the boys wedding attire – very funky!
It was then off to catch up with Mellita, her mum and the girls at Royal on the Park for bridal preparation photos … and these were not like any other bridal prep shots.
I was eager to see Mellita’s wedding dress and oh WOW. I think us girls just stood around mouths opened for several minutes gushing over her exquisite bridal gown which was gold-ish in colour with a beautiful beaded bodice and the beautiful colour of her shoes were stunning. Then Mellita’s mum lifted the tissue off the box of flowers from Tegan of Blossom & Twine and they were nothing short of the most beautiful wedding bouquets Ive ever seen – I was one excited photographer with all the pretty things to photograph! It was also great to work again with Deb from Beauty On The Move who did Mellita and the girls hair and makeup. We quickly escaped over to the Brisbane City Botanical Gardens for some Bridal Party photos which was where Mellita’s dad got his first look of his gorgeous daughter on her wedding day.
Then over to the wedding ceremony on the Figtree Lawn at Mount Coot-tha Botanical Gardens followed by congratulations and family portraits. As much as everyone hates the family portraits, these days they are a lot more casual in the posing, but they are certainly an important part of the wedding day and great opportunity while all the family members are together to update the family portraits for historical purposes.
The location shoot! Rather than dragging the couple all around the beautiful gardens, we just wandered down the path from Figtree Lawn towards the wedding reception at The Botanical Cafe which is at the bottom end of the gardens. Such a short distance but the amount of fun and crazy photos we took in that short distance just shows its not about the ‘location’, but rather the people you spend it with.
Ahhh the reception … check out those table decorations and the kids table! The big kids tables were like mini forests with tables covered in moss, beautiful flowers and a collection of vintage books, candles and quirky elements like moss covered rabbits … the combined effort of Mellita and Tegan from Blossom & Twine.
Later I also ran a photo booth session complete with funny props which all the guests got into and we even had a few on the floor.
Some of the highlights of the reception were both the equally funny and sentimental speeches – and while the families may not come together on what footy team they support – they certainly know how to stir the pot big time and have a good chuckle. One of the beautiful moments was when the bride and groom’s mum each carried in a layer of the wedding cake and then assembled it when it came time to cut the cake. Probably even a bigger highlight at the reception was the performance by Rode the junior bridesmaid – wow what a voice and Im sure we will see her name appear in the music scene one day.
Being one of my last weddings of 2012 it certainly goes down as one of my favourites.
