Maternity photography is about capturing a joyful time in a couple’s journey as they embark on a new chapter in their lives, creating their own little family.

Maternity sessions are particularly special. To be able to document this rare time in a woman’s life. It’s a time when a woman can feel vulnerable and self conscious with the changes to her body to grow another life, and wondering what kind of mum she will be.

My aim as a maternity photographer, is to not only take beautiful images of mum and her baby bump, but to help her feel beautiful and comfortable in front of the camera, so that I can create images that the child will look back on and see how overjoyed their parents were and realise they were loved before they had even entered the world.

Expecting a baby into the family is an exciting journey for both expecting parents.  That’s why the Deb Boots LIFE STORIES approach to maternity photography invites you to include your partner and any children to be apart of the session. Yes, we do belly photos, but its more about mum-to-be and dad-to-be connecting as a couple and to celebrate their exciting news of introducing a new baby into their family.

My aim is to create a comfortable atmosphere so you feel at ease which ultimately will reflect in your images. I will direct you into flattering poses to show off your beautiful bump without making you feel awkward or uncomfortable. You carry precious cargo and therefore I will never put you in a pose that compromises you or baby. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate how amazing a woman’s body is creating little humans and capture that time before you meet your little one.

The maternity photography sessions is ideally conducted between 32 weeks and 36 weeks, around 1-2 weeks before your due date.

Typically scheduled for weekday afternoons to take advantage of the best afternoon light. We also do offer limited Saturday and Sunday afternoon sessions when available.

The session generally lasts around 1 hour.

We recommend at least 2 wardrobe changes in order to produce different looks, maybe one more casual and one more dressed up look, and to produce a variety of images to choose from.

It is not necessary for the ladies to have their hair & makeup done for the session, however, it can add to the final result of the images. Hair & Makeup is not included and at at your own expense.  We can recommend stylists if you wish to have hair & makeup for the session.  Please make sure you allow enough time for the styling session and travel prior to your session.

I share my time between Sydney and Brisbane, and offer maternity photography sessions to families living anywhere between the NSW South Coast to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. That includes all the areas in between – Sydney, NSW Central Coast, Newcastle through to Byron Bay in Northern NSW and Northern Rivers district as well as the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast.

Because Im on the road a lot, I’m available for maternity photography sessions in regional areas as well – I would hate for any couple to miss out on the opportunity to have this exciting time of becoming parents captured.  I particularly like to offer regional couples the opportunity to have their maternity photos taken because they don’t always have the opportunity to access professional photography services. Travel fees may apply, but I quote on an individual basis – Im sure there is a way we can make it happen, possibly another family taking up the opportunity to have family photos taken.

I like to use a variety of locations, from the beautiful countryside to gardens and the beach. Depending upon the style/look desired for each couple, but we will discuss this prior to your session to find a suitable location that matches the couple’s personalities and places they like to go together. I will meet you at the arranged location on the day of the shoot.

Now you have invested time and money into getting professional maternity photography, it makes no sense to just store your digital files in a drawer gathering dust.  We recommend printing your photos and proudly displaying them in your home.

For my style of shooting that is based on storytelling, I believe photo albums are the best way to display your photos. Its more about the series of photos than just one hero photo.  You can leave your photo album on your coffee table so your kids grow up looking back on the photos and share in on how much you loved them before they were even born.

I also offer fine art prints – the photos are printed on a beautiful museum-grade fine art paper with a matte finish. The prints are archival-quality to ensure every image will look beautiful for a long time.

If you don’t live in or near Brisbane or Sydney, that is not a problem as Deb Boots Life Stories offers ‘destination portrait sessions‘.

Destination Portrait Sessions are when I travel to regional or country areas around NSW, Queensland and Australia wide, giving couples and families in regional areas the same opportunity as city folk to get beautiful  photos.

If you would like to organise for me to come to your town or region, get in touch so we can discuss plans and pricing.

I suggest for the destination portraits, to round up a couple or group of friends or from the local schools in your area, so we can create a special discounted photo package.
