FAQs

Where are you based?

I am based in Sydney, but spent the last 10 years living and photographing in Brisbane, therefore travel frequently between Sydney & Brisbane for weddings. I am also available for family sessions in both Sydney and Brisbane, and everywhere in between. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch to find out my travel itinerary to see when I will be in your area next or if travel fees apply.

How much do your sessions cost?

My family photography prices are set out as packages. That means you know up front exactly how much you are spending when booking and what you are getting in that photography package. Nice and simply family photography packages! No confusing session fee and then having to purchase individual images after the session. You always have the option to add products such as an album or wall art, but you are totally in control of how much you spend on preserving your family’s memories.

Where do the sessions take place and at what time?

I am an on-location photographer, which means I either come to your home or an area near you (ie. a park, botanical gardens, the beach etc.).

For in-the-home sessions, the time of the session will depend on what time of day you get the best lighting inside. Usually rooms that have big windows with sheer curtaining to filter any direct sun is best.  Usually the best times are in the morning to midday.

For newborn sessions, I typically shoot these starting around 10am, utilising the master bedroom, lounge room and nursery. Please ensure these rooms are decluttered before the session for the best results.

For outdoor or location sessions, the best lighting for your session is 1-2 hours before sunset.

How long are the sessions?

Check the photography packages for details as I have a few different packages with different options depending on the type of session you want.

Is there anything I should know before booking a session?

Before booking your session it is important that you have taken the time to look through my portfolio. To ensure my style matches with the kinds of family or newborn photos you are after. Lifestyle photography isn’t for everyone because its a more natural approach to documenting your family. By looking through recent sessions on my blog, you can get a feel for my photography style. My style consists of natural, casual moments, captured in a fun and playful way!

How do I book a session?

I require a non-refundable retainer being 50% of your photography package to reserve your session. The retainer needs to be paid within 48 hours of booking your session. If the retainer is not received within 72 hours, your session will be cancelled. The balance of your session is due 48 hours before your session or you can pay with cash on the day of your session, however, the amount must be paid before the session begins.

Family sessions can usually be scheduled at short notice and up to a couple of months in advance.

For newborn sessions, it is recommended that you book in as early as 3 months before your due date. You wont know the exact due date, because some babies like to arrive early or late, but at least I can pencil a date in the calendar and then confirm a definite date for the session once your baby has arrived. I recommend that newborns are photographed between 7-14 days while they are still sleepy and smooth skin, and usually Dad is still on maternity leave. I do realise that this isn’t always possible, and I am happy to do a lifestyle newborn session at any time in the first two months.

If you didn’t book in your newborn session while pregnant, still contact me as I may have availability for a last minute session.

What should I expect during my session?

The sessions are kept relaxed and informal. At the start of your session I take a moment to get to know everyone. I will give direction and guidance during the session, but mostly I want you to interact with each other. I do have a series of activities and games we can play for those who are a little shy or struggle with being in front of the camera. But its those genuine moments you’ll remember most years from now!

I will capture a mix of photos, from different combinations of people together as well as individuals, and doing a variety of activities to create different reactions and emotions.

I prefer to start with the entire family while the children get use to me, remember I am a stranger to them, so they will need the first part of the session to feel comfortable with me. Once the children have warmed to me,  I prefer to work with them alone so I have their full attention, so parents you can sit back and relax. It’s much easier for me to get natural smiles when I’m being silly without parents around, simply because I get those genuine first reactions and giggles to come out! I will then get the parents back to finish with some fun group photos once everyone feels like I am a member of the family.

What if the weather is horrible?

If the weather takes a turn for the worst, rain or wind, then we will reschedule the session for the next available date. If the rain is light and bearable, and your family doesn’t mind getting a tiny bit wet, then we can plan for a fun session jumping in puddles, wearing raincoats and gum boots ( … or not and just dance in the rain )!  I’m open to ideas!

What happens if I need to change the date?

No problem, I understand people get sick and no-one wants photos of people with red noses, for one the experience isn’t fun and that translates into your memories. Id much rather have everyone happy and healthy. Just contact me as soon as you can to reschedule your session.  However, if the session is rescheduled only within 2 hours before the start of the shoot, then a $100 re-booking fee will be charged.

What happens if I need to cancel the session?

If you do need to cancel your session you will lose your non-refundable retainer.

What do we wear?

My families aren’t the ones that rock up to their session in matching outfits! My families like co-ordinating their colours so their is a colour story to link the people together, but without exactly matching colours. Casual with a great expression for style is a good start. What this means is, while it’s important to match, it doesn’t mean that everyone should wear the same colour. Instead, I suggest coordinating colours and adding layers and accessories to show your personalities and make it more fun!

Something to keep in mind while planning your wardrobe is what you’ll be doing with the images from your session! Are you hanging them on the wall? Are they going in an album? Why is this important – Im glad you asked. You may choose to coordinate your clothing and accessories to match the style of your home interiors & decor. If your home has lots of neutral/natural colours, you might like to stick to neutral outfits but accessorised with fun pops of colour!

How long after our session can we see the images? What do I receive as part of my photography package?

After your session, I will be busy processing your images.  To give you the best photos, I fully edit every image that will be in your online gallery and that my friend, takes love and time!

First you will receive a photo slideshow with highlights from your session. Then all your images will be made available in an online gallery within 2-3 weeks from the date your session.

All my photography packages include edited, high resolution images supplied as print-ready .jpg files. You also receive a set of low resolution images for sharing on social media. The images are delivered on a USB within 4 weeks of your session.

You may choose to add products such as an album or wall art, but these are additional purchases.

Will we own the copyrights to the images from our session?

No. I retain the copyright to all images that I take, however, you will receive a personal print release to be able to print the images and share the images on social media.

Will my images be posted on your blog and social media?

Yes. Some of the images from your session will be posted on my blog and social media including Facebook and Instagram. I rely on being able to share images to advertise my business and continue to be able to document other families stories. If you would prefer for me not to share your images online, I do understand and no judgement placed, but please let me know at the time of booking.
