HOLY SPIRIT CHURCH NEW FARM
QUT ROOM THREE SIXTY
BRISBANE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
Anna + Joe
The saying goes, good things come to those who wait. A mutual friend of Anna & Joe’s had organised to see a movie, Inception, which they both went along too. Joe & Anna hit it off, although it took a little while after the original meeting for them to start seeing each other!
The proposal story according to Anna. “We decided to go to the Barossa Valley for a week’s holiday. While on a wine tour (yes, we were several wineries in by that point! – Joe says the wine was for liquid courage … haha). Joe said he wanted to ‘for for a walk’ and I happily obliged, without ever suspecting that the proposal was coming. Then he made a short but sweet speech, before getting down on one knee and proposing with the most perfect ring for me. I burst into tears and couldn’t believe it was happening (Joe said I kept repeating the word ‘no’ as he got down on one knee, haha.’) Of course, I said yes, then we spread the happy news with the rest of the wine tour. The tour guide actually spread the news to the remaining wineries on our tour, so a glass of sparkling was waiting for us on arrival. It was a fantastic day.”
The proposal story according to Joe. “well, Anna didn’t exactly happily oblige, she kept asking questions, as to why I wanted to look at the vineyard, when she could see it perfectly well from where we were. Luckily she ended up going along with it.”

GROOM PREPARATION FOR THE WEDDING DAY
Joe called me on the morning of the wedding, alerting me to a story heading up Brisbane News that the nearby streets were in lockdown due to a siege between a local resident and police. Warning us their might be some hold up with us getting to the boys for their prep photos. Lucky by the time we needed to start, traffic had cleared and groom prep was underway. That would be a first .. haha !!
Anna & Joe were packing up house because after the wedding they were jet setting off on a 3 week honeymoon to Spain & Portugal, before spending the first year of married life in the UK. Joe has a love of maps so we wanted to make sure they were included in his wedding photos.
The engagement and wedding rings were from Diamond Boulevard Jewellers.
BRIDE PREP PHOTOS AT THE ALEX PERRY APARTMENTS IN FORTITUDE VALLEY
Anna & her bridesmaids/sisters got ready for the wedding at the Alex Perry Apartments in Fortitude Valley.
Anna wore a stunning custom wedding dress from Elizabeth De Varga. The brides gorgeous metallic shoes were from Nine West with earrings from Paula Hall Designs. The veil was also from Elizabeth De Varga and headpiece from Roslyn Harris Designs.
The stunning bouquet of natives and pink flowers were from Bella Bloom Floral Designs. They also supplied the reception venue floral arrangements.
Hair & makeup by was by Isabelle & Emma from Isabella Jane Hairstyling.
A SENTIMENTAL BRISBANE HOLY SPIRIT CATHOLIC CHURCH WEDDING
The Brisbane Holy Spirit Catholic Church is a beautiful church located in New Farm. A stunning red brick church with a bell tower that can be seen from all across New Farm. Rich in history, the church was built in 1930, making it one of the oldest catholic churches in Brisbane.
A CHURCH CEREMONY AT HOLY SPIRIT CHURCH NEW FARM
The Holy Spirit Church New Farm was chosen by Anna & Joe for their ceremony for sentimental reasons, mainly. Anna’s parents were married there 30 or so years ago, Anna was baptised there, and Anna & her sisters went to primary school next to the church. The Holy Spirit Parish has been a big part of Anna’s childhood and the family’s lives for many years. Joe also fell in love with the simplistic beauty of the church.
The anticipated wait for the bride to arrive. What kind of gown will she be wearing? Will she tear up?
As Te Deum Prelude by Charpentier was played on the church organ by Patricia Marszalek, Anna walked down the aisle on her father’s arm to join Joe at the alter.
Best memory from your wedding day ? …
Anna – “For me, it would be the moment I walked down the aisle with my father
and saw Joe down the end. He had tears in his eyes, and it was such a beautiful moment for me.
I managed not to cry myself (think of the makeup!!)
but it was also thanks to my Dad whispering to me ‘don’t walk too fast girl!“
Joe – “I definitely agree. At that moment I was standing at the altar,
trying to keep myself composed,
but on seeing how beautiful Anna looked, I was overcome by emotion.“
Father Fransiskus conducted the ceremony and officiated the marriage.
I always love photographing the congratulations photos following the ceremony. Coming out of this quiet, formal gathering into guests bursting with congratulations and big heartfelt hugs. It’s like an unspoken sign of ‘let’s get this party started’.
Family photos are important so there is always time allowed in the wedding day schedule for a group photo and the family photos following the ceremony. While I rarely share the family photos on the blog, in my attempts to keep the blogs shorter for faster loading and a more speedy viewing experience, the couple certainly receive family photos as part of their collection. Prior to the wedding day, I obtain a list from the couple of the family groups they want photos off, to ensure we don’t miss any of the important family photos required. If you wish to see the family photos, contact the couple for the link and password to their private gallery with the full wedding photo collection.
WEDDING PHOTOS FORTITUDE VALLEY – THE WICKHAM, GRAFFITI LANEWAYS, DOUGHNUT TIME AND ALFRED & CONSTANCE
We then headed off for what is one of my favourite parts of the day, the bridal party location photos and couple’s portraits. I was super excited for Anna & Joe’s wedding day after our planning discussions. Anna & Joe loved all the same things I did, graffiti and textured walls, everything that sums up the city lifestyle … oh and doughnuts … haha.
We wandered the streets of Fortitude Valley on foot for their wedding photos. Stopping at various places including The Wickham, used the Matt Blatt roller door, graffiti laneways, Doughnut Time and Alfred & Constance.
The bridesmaids cute little dress numbers were from Forever New – and get excited, they had pockets!!!
Anna & Joe also wanted some photos outside the QUT Chemistry building, however it was dark by that time, so we broke out the flash and did some night photography.
BRISBANE CITY WEDDING RECEPTION AT ROOM 360 QUT GARDENS POINT
Room 360 QUT Gardens Point is a premier top-floor wedding venue located in the QUT Gardens Point campus adjacent to Old Government House and next to the Brisbane City Botanical Gardens.
Featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and two outdoor terraces, it offers spectacular views of the city, Brisbane River, Kangaroo Point Cliffs and the City Botanic Gardens.
Anna a self-declared non-DIYer, made some of the signs (she tells me “using good old Microsoft Word … haha“), and the ceremony booklets. Anna also made the photo booth album. The rest of the styling was left up to the experts!
Anna & Joe used the lovely Lisa from Willow Tree Creative to help style their wedding, and tells me Lisa “was just amazing, from the first meeting to the day of the wedding“.
The wedding cake was by Hansel & Gretel Cakes.
Anna’s aunty made the cannoli (pictured above) for dessert.
The Photo Booth Collective were there to focus on some crazy photo booth fun!
The perfect pause in formalities for some fireworks put on by Brisbane City Council … haha … it’s was the April long weekend so naturally the city council had put on a fireworks display for the people of Brisbane, but we are going with the fireworks were organised especially for the newlyweds. Lucky couple!
And of course a photo on the Room Three Sixty balcony with the Story Bridge in the background. I love creating nostalgic images with iconic Brisbane tourist attractions for couples when they are moving away from Australia.
After the fireworks show which brought everyone onto the balcony, it was time to get back to the speeches.
There was no doubting how excited Anna & Joe were to be getting married. They showed it throughout the entire day with smiles and kisses, even here you see how happy they are while cutting that magnificent wedding cake.
The newlyweds chose This Mess is Mine by Vance Joy as their bridal waltz song for their first dance as husband and wife. Anna & Joe took dance lessons with Perry’s Dance Academy and it showed in their dance number.
MC Adam from Decibels Entertainment ensured the evening ran to schedule and supplied tunes for the dancefloor – and did the dance floor go crazzzzy!!! Im so jealous of Anna’s awesome dance moves!
What part of your wedding was your top priority ? …
“The venue! We really wanted our guests to be well fed, and Room 360 did not disappoint.
The food was amazing, and the staff were attentive and friendly.”
What advice would you give other bride or groom’s to-be ?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. It doesn’t matter afterwards. The day goes so fast! Of course, I can say this with the benefit of hindsight, but its so bloody true. There were so many little things I was getting stressed over (ie. the ribbons for the wedding favours doesn’t match the invitations!) but at the end of the day, the wedding was about all our loved ones coming together to celebrate our marriage. And that in itself is overwhelming, to have that much love in the room. I would also recommend taking a moment to take it all in. I remember my married friend telling me to ‘take it all in’ and I’m so glad I listened. I did take just a minute to look around at all our family and friends, see all their faces, as well as the beautifully decorated venue, and then looking over to Joe, and we just sat there for a minute, just holding hands and looking around at everyone. It sounds overly sentimental, but I will also treasure that moment. Also, for the brides – wear comfy shoes! I didn’t have sore feet the whole night, even after walking around for our bridal party pictures and dancing up a storm on the dance floor! I also recommend taking a moment to spend with your spouse and bridal party before going into the reception. Joe and I had some photos taken, just the two of us, and it was a lovely moment. Deb was so professional and accommodating.
Bride & Groom special mentions and thank you’s …
