Sometimes I like to get out of wedding & portrait photographer mode and do other kinds of photography. Late last year I got involved with this fun project.
I was catching up with Tracie Weaver, one of Brisbane’s leading hair stylists and makeup artists, and she had invited a commercial photographer friend of hers Tristan Peter to join us.
Tracie & Tristan were about to collaborate on a photoshoot and in conversation I found an opportunity where I could do some behind the scenes documentary photography. For years Ive been saying I want to do more personal documentary projects, so when this opportunity with Tracie & Tristan popped up, I jumped at the chance.
Tristan was submitting this shoot as part of a study project. The concept for the shoot was female criminals set in the 1950s. There were 8 interesting characters, all played by 8 different people. Tristan developed the characters to include their names, a background story, and different police stations around the country. The characters included a pick-pocket, a woman scored by her cheating husband, a drunk, a brothel madam, a nightclub singer and a doctor’s wife selling drugs on the side.
It was so much fun to be apart of this photoshoot, and working with Tristan and Tracie, the creative team and all the stand-in criminals.
Tristan has been a commercial advertising photographer since 2000, but in more recent years focusing on his true passion, fashion and portrait photography. You can view his work at Tristan Peter website. Brides can contact Tracie for bridal hair & makeup through The Powder Room – just request Tracie Weaver.
Below are the images Tristan created. There were several processes to creating the images; first digitally captured, then re-photographed with a polaroid and again on medium format, just some steps to achieve the end result to maintain the period and story of capturing woman from different walks of life committing criminal acts in the 1950s.
